“Rescued from Hurricane Katrina as a puppy, Celine was brought to Florida and adopted. But five years later, this sweet, friendly dog was found as a stray in rough shape. Luckily, she then came to Best Friends, where she’s getting the nutrition, vet care and TLC she needs to make a full recovery. She’s also doing so great in doggie school that she’s on her way to being a Good Canine Citizen!
Born in 2005, Celine really likes people and loves kids! She’s also good with other dogs. After having to fend for herself as a stray, she appreciates people who don’t make sudden moves towards her. She’d love a quiet home, so she can relax and enjoy life.
Celine was in sad condition when she arrived. But now this lovely Lab-mix is looking and feeling much better. And she deserves a happy ending at last.”
We helped pick up Celine in Miami and get her on the plane back out to Best Friends. After Celine had been rescued, she was brought into a vet’s office and when the vet scanned the microchip she say that Celine had Best Friends listed as the owner. Once they contacted Best Friends, arrangements were made to get her back to the sanctuary. That’s where we came in! We were asked to help transport her from the vet’s to the Miami airport so she could be flown back to safety.
Thanks to my friend Jill who was willing to take the 6 hour road trip to Miami after I had a long day of work. The trip was going great until an SUV in front of us kicked up a huge piece of metal. I swerved to miss it and in the process cut the interior of my tire. Needless to say, we were in the middle of Homestead, FL just after midnight fixing a tire. I guess the saying “no good deed goes unpunished is really true! 😉
The vet assistant was great for having to wait for us due to our road hazard issues. We finally made it to the vet’s just before 1:00 AM and met a sweet, VERY energetic and very powerful black lab mix. We loaded her up in my truck and headed to a hotel next to the Miami airport. Celine was having a blast in the hotel room. So much fun that she did not want to go to sleep. That being said, we did not get more than an hour of sleep.
We dropped her off for her flight and the WONDERFUL crew at Continental got Celine prepared for the trip (I recommend them for any air transport for animals). I just happened to be going to visit Best Friends two weeks later so I was able to meet with the little spitfire doggy again and got a chance to walk her again in her new temporary home. It was great seeing how happy she was!
